There is a thread on Scoobynet about the Ecotek valve: http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/Forum1/HTML/009161.html

Ecotek's website is at http://www.ecotekplc.com/

It is cheap and sounds like a bad idea, but there are claims that the MY01 WRX has a similar device fitted (called a 'tumble valve').

Any opinions from the gurus on this BBS?

Well, I certainly wouldn't see myself as a guru, but for me the possible benefits still have to be proved.

I can't help feeling that the claimed improvements in fuel economy are so marginal that the whole thing could just be self-delusional - you expect to see an improvement so unconciously you tend to be a little bit lighter with the right foot!

As for the performance improvement side, this gadget is supposed to only make any difference off-boost. As far as my car is concerned (a pretty standard MY00, except for exhaust changes) I cannot detect any failings off-boost, so I find it extremely difficult to envisage where this thing could actually show any improvement.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong, but at the moment, for me, it's a case of "not proven".
