Which type of fuel surge tank/pump are used on the WRC cars, and would it work ok on a road car. The reason I am asking is that on track I have had starvation a couple of times. This is the correct way to resolve this, but I was just wondering which pump would be the better one to use, and what size tank to use?

Many Thanks

Dan

Danny...

The fuel system on WRC cars cost a few K pounds... they run full FIA fuel cells in the back..duel bosch fuel pumps...bosch filters...etc..

They dont suffer from surge

Speak to Bob Rawle about Surge Tanks...

I run one of my own design... contains enough fuel for about 40 seconds which I reckoned would be fine http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/smile.gif

J,

The way YOUR cars been running, you could use the surge tank as the MAIN tank !!!!! 40 seconds..........that'll be the longest it's run in months http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

BTW: I would look at the powerstation surge tank system when considering such a purchase... the prototype installation looks very good... ask the guys about it a donno. http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/smile.gif http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/smile.gif

Moray,

Prototypes, are just that, and I'm sure PS will want to do some testing before they start offering the product for sale. Donno should be good for that http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Out of interest, has this system come about due to the recent demise of a car, alledgedly due to lack of fuel ?.

Hence the need to make sure the tank does not go below 1/3 full when doing a track day..

I've experienced fuel starvation, tight right hand hairpin at Anglesey and it ain't pretty..

No damage done. But it's sure embarrassing having a Saab pass you while the car recovers.

Richard,

Used to get fuel surge on the road http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/eek.gif, but after fitting a fuel surge tank, I was able to go round Donno......with my fuel warning light on http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Seems like the idea is catching on http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/cool.gif
