View Full Version : Rear Diff Brace

Steven
9th December 2011, 20:37
Having suffered with drive shaft problems on the Banana, thanks to a hint from Andy we pretty much cured the problem thanks to rigidly mounting the diff to the roll cage and rear subframe.

Whilst this could be done on the Banana, it couldnt be done on say a road car that has enough torque to twist the rear diff around.

So i have had made up some braces that are designed to be plug and play on most cars. The braces are relatively easy to install, and solidly mount the rear most part of the diff to the subframe.

The come with relevant nuts and bolts, are powder coated silver and require a single hole to be drill in the subframe to allow fitment.

I have 12 available at 55 each, including VAT and delivery. 5 less if collected. (Going to sell at 60+Vat)

Is it possible to cheaply produce a solid bush for the early diff carriers to replace the poly bush and also the same idea to replace the 6 speed forward linkage bush.

You will get additional transmission noise on deceleration with these fitted, which is not insignificant. They can also exacerbate some chassis twisting and driveshaft problems if you're launching with 500+ bhp smile.gif

Brilliant to see someone finally making these in the UK. I have offered my BR ones to a few people to make and sell but no one was interested in the numbers :(

Steven
10th December 2011, 12:25
Based on testing, they significantly reduce driveshaft problems on launching and high torque loading.

Also when fitting one of these it's a good idea to get yourself a set of Whiteline Rear Subframe Lock Bolts. smile.gif Additional load on the rear subframe can compromise alignment so it's prudent to put them on your mod list smile.gif

The ones supplied in the kit.

The kit was complete with all hardware required to fit and fitted without any trouble at all. In fact i think i may have shaved the 2 outer bolts down a couple of threads to give some more clearance around the driveshaft cups. Other than that, no complaints here :)

So you keep the old bar on aswell ?
thought you ditched the old diff brace and the solid unit is a replacement ..

frayz.
21st August 2012, 22:23
If you look closely you will see the OEM brace still in place. This bolts to the outside using longer fasteners and effectively makes the complete assy solid.
NVH is considerably increased, as is the improvement in on power feel through the drivetrain. The diff whine annoys me on rundown but not enough for me to remove it as it really does make the car feel better.
