Just broke another rear shaft on dyno yesterday, thats 5 now.
Therefore thinking about buying some driveshaft shop ones.
Not had chance to check prices but just wondering if anyone else interested?

So did it break something then? Its slightly unnerving to find bits of customers cars on the dyno the next morning..

In your case i'm afraid i was too busy laughing to be unnerved

I could be for the honda but not for a while id imagine. If you could get a decent discount though that might change things. Pretty sure for the 1000hp 5.9 versions though were looking at about 1200 a pair?

Sy North has used DDS rears with uprated CV's with no issues, however others had had problems is you look on NASIOC.

I looked in to replacement shafts and found an alternative here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1896342

Now these are just the shafts and not CV's but it's the shafts that have always broken on my car.

Paul B has a contact at Albins too so he mentioned in the past.

Also there is http://www.folkardgears.plus.com/ in the UK who I think Paul has used in the past.

I never got around to doing mine but would be up for a GB of some sort.

I have used my new axels now for 7 full bore launches and they are still in one piece.I know they are only axels but with a prepped track and MT drag radials on all corners I think they are not that bad.

Any times this year Frank? Managed to test the box yet?

Paul the gearbox is rock solid now, shifst are sublime and super fast,my compliments to you ;)

Times are coming allong slowly but steady, best 1/4 is 10.28 with 227km/h with a 1.74 60ft, but the best 60ft is 1.66 and I know they must come down to 1.5 or high 1.4's
But even with a bad start I'm doing a 10 sec time so there is speed enough.
But I'm struggeling a bit with the launch control,I'm now launching the car at 6500rpm and still not getting a smooth start. And I do not like how I need to engage the launch control.
I wanna make something with a push button on the steering wheel very soon.

Coming friday we will go to the strip again and need to find that single digit time.

Last year I was constanly setting low 11's down and then out of the blue there was the 10.7 time so I hoping this will come for the 9sec allso :D

I would be intrested in a pair if the price is right to suit a R180 diff (gc8 sti4)

PS-06
13th July 2010, 20:00
Only rear axels are 225,- a piece, and I drive a R180 so I do not see why they won't fit.

What do i need so that the rear shafts won't break running an R180 rear diff from a V5 type-r?
I may just about break the 600bhp mark and will be used for general larking about having fun

Have you considered that 600BHP on a road car may be a tad overkill??? And on a 2.1 its going to be laggy with everything happening at the top end, just before you run out of revs and need to change gear. What turbo you planning Ciaran?

dunx
19th July 2010, 12:26
Arf has a 2.1 @ 627 bhp, and it is very driveable, all down to the mapping I guess, it's not "all top end" IMHO.

What age car? VVT heads? head spec?
What turbo is he using?
What does he use the car for?

Very interested in this.

Any 2.0/2.1 that makes over 600bhp on V power is going to be doing absolutely nothing under 4000rpm.

dunc
19th July 2010, 12:45
That was my concern Andy.

I was planning to cap power well under 600 due to lag. I'll be using a 2.1 and vvt heads. Anything above 500 and I'll be happy. Fancy a GT30R but even then I am concerened about lag.

dunx Crap not know what you are doing mapping compared to sensible mapping makes a difference but you cant magically make it spool earlier.
Vvt helps.
Got a graph?

LOL Simon. I am facing this problem now. Even though it will be a while before I put the car together turbo choice is something I am considering now. On my 2.1 with vvt heads, more top end power is always going to come at the cost of spool, so its not an easy choice. Race fuel or 10% methanol isn't an issue for me but want to get teh turbo choice right. Perhaps a seperate thread is in order. Apologies for taking over your thread Simon. Oops

No bother.
2.35 and gt35r would prob match 2.1 with vvt.
Gt30 should be v nice

I know the car now. As do you Peter - Its Scott's old motor.

It has CNC worked VVT heads with Cosworth cams, valves, springs, RCM pulleys etc etc etc.
