johnbanks@dsl.pipex.com What, you paid people 75 to blow their ECUs up?

LOL, no I bought up spares for 75 each, sometimes had to pay a bit more.

When reflashing the 99/00 sometimes the ECU fails, often the first time you flash one. It cannot be retrieved and the car won't start - ECU fit for the bin only. So I always had at least one spare license and a spare ECU when mapping my own or anyone else's car. Just put a spare ECU in and carried on.

I've blown up about five in total now, one when testing power supplies, the others just random failures. Others such as the one I am running presently can be reflashed over 100 times. Some just don't like it.

It does seem more reliable when using a mains powered 12.1V PSU rather than the 12.0V DC-DC converter with capacitor that I usually use in car. Nice not to be tied to a mains power supply when reflashing though.
