Wanted to borrow buy etc..

Want to try converting to Phase 2 either wasted spark or run four phase 2 coils..

Preferably cheap as chips!! :D

4 phase 2 coils??

that would be interesting..

You are aware that the MY98 setup may be easier, as it doesnt have the inbuilt ignitor as the my00 does.

Now you are testing me knowledge..

okay so MY98 Coils would be easier then..

I was thinking of converting to wasted spark and then thought why not just use 4 coils..

Just wire them to ecu and then use one set of HT lead connections.. blank the other off with some duct tape..

Or am I missing something??

Only issue I can see is space.. I am sure I can squeese them on my inner wings somewhere.. just HT lead length the only restriction.

Either that or I just chicken out and go for the Bosch coils..

I would go with standard subaru coilpacks and an MSD. Oh, I have!

Paul,

I noticed you had two bosch coils and two coil packs.. ?

Did you have trouble with 4 bosch coils? unreliable coils and ended up back at two OE or something else?

How many pennies is MSD going to cost me?

I wouldnt go with std coilpacks as I have had them arc over internally as with bosch coils..

I would not bother with msd for your needs..

Someone suggested (think it was Moray) mounting the OE coilpacks remotely and use HT leads to reduce the heat induced short life of them..

might be another consideration..

Still prefer the Phase 2 or now it would seem phase 1.5 coils..

I have a phase 1.5 coil Simon. No HT leads tho. Also have the manifold to go with it ;)

David,

when did your standard coil packs arc over internally? Did you isolate the HT leads from the triggers on the bosch coilpacks?

Tony. Can I borrow/buy the coil??

Tempted to say manifold too as I would love to reverse it but not enough spare money to do that.

I had a mix yes. I had a bosch coilpack go a few weeks ago and wired in 2 standard coils instead to free up some space. I will replace the remaining 2 bosch units when I get round to it.

HT leads are trouble in themselves too.

I wired up the phase 1.5 coil when i had a misfire. Dead easy.

Drop me an e-mail Simon and we can discuss the finer points if you want it ;) :D

That is true.. but at least they are easy and cheap to swap..

80 for a set of HT leads, doesn't seem cheap to me.

Paul

true 80 is not cheap.. but 200 for coil packs is not cheap either..

David_Wallis

halfrauds is cheaper.

Bosch leads cost about 30 for a set, but not recommended for CDI type ignitions.

I would rather replace coilpacks every 5-10 years myself.

I have what are believed to be good coilpacks but spark is blowing out at 1.3bar :(

Tone Loc

What plugs are you running Simon?

Tony.

Simon_
5th August 2004, 14:16
NGK PFR7B.. gapped to 0.6mm as at 0.7mm they blew out at 1bar! was running at 1.15bar fine for about 5,000miles.. then I got bored with the boost, and was overboosting beyond the map sensor in 4th and 5th to 1.5bar.. Dawes borrowed from Nom (thanks again) and set to 1.3bar.. runs perfect 90% of the time..

AFR at 11.5 to 11.8 on the Tech Edge kit.

Paul@Zen

BKR8EIX at 1.1mm will run 2bar no problem with MSD ignition firing stock coil packs, and probably larger gaps too. I know I keep going on about this, but they really are a nice piece of kit (the MSD that is).

How much roughly Paul?

Tony.

(the MSD that is)

Paul@Zen

about 220 for a DIS 2

Simon_

Thinking out loud.. the ignitor is separate and is still the original on my car so perhaps with the mileage I should replace it??

Simon

Been out mapping the car again tonight and I am not 100% sure it is misfiring.. something is going on.. but not sure what.. wondering if boost gauge is under reading.. took out a lot of timing and it seems better..

but not convinced..

Simon I have a set of WRX MY96 coil packs if there any use to you? Coil on plug type?

Paul@Zen
16th August 2004, 13:51
I have a DIS-4 available that will be less than 150. New they (dis-4) are actually nearer 300 landed in the uk.

Paul Sounds a very good price Paul but not sure if I really need to go that far?

might be ott for my measly 350bhp max?

Why are you no longer wanting to run with it?

Some Bosch coils might be possible if mark can find all of them.
