View Full Version : Are Evo's tuneable?

Hi Guys

I've currently got an STi scoob and was wondering about possibly going for an Evo instead as I'm a bit put off by having to spend millions of pounds to get 20 bhp which will then melt the engine http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/frown.gif.

My question is, are Evo's the same? Are all Japanese manufacturers building their engines to such close limits that you can't do much with them?

Sorry if this seems a bit superficial but hey, that's me!

Cheers

From all the discussions on email lists, etc, Evo's are fairly similar to STIs wrt their tuning possibilities, ie 20-30bhp from breathing and de-cat, probably another 20-30 by upping the boost with the standard engine parts, then you start having to spend money on chips, pistons, rods, clutch, etc etc. Cost is probably fairly similar.

Although from what I've heard has been said, the basic Evo components are stronger than the equivalent Scooby bits. Technical design is better too - front mounted intercooler, oil cooler, etc etc.

I have seen a 560 hp EVO on a Carshow. Plus, I know people who turned EVO VI.-s into Group N racecars, so they probably know what they are doing. Not to mention the other "home" (japanese) developments, such as Zero Fighter...
I think you were right with your sentence about Japanese car manufacturers.

p.s.: I know that there is nothing specific in my message, but I hope it helped your vision.

Cheers guys

Sadly it looks like that idea will go out the window then. Maybe I'll have to go the <cough> cossie <cough> route instead...

One Question!
How Much HP your really want.! For a Evo 6 .I belive You can Easy tune it up to MAX 340 to 350 Hp By a Intake,Exhaust, downpipe.A ECU swap Or Boost controllor. .A HKS GT2835 Kits with good upgraded Fuel system can do something like 400+HP.Any thing more than that.I would suggest you need to rebuilt you engine. For Safety reason.MY friends Boss Speed Tuened by Boss speed JAPAN EVO 5 RS Run Low boost 1.6 Bar.. And doing Mid to high 11's in 1/4 miles in street trim.( Got Cams,Engine blue printed and rebuilt,Head Ported ,Big turbo,Fuel system.)IF run in 2 bar( I belive At least 500 HP + with race fuel)

Be careful, no name no pack drill! An EVO tuning guru close to London has been blowing up more than one EVO http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/frown.gif

M40/M25 is near London is it not? Does a head gasket failure warrant a blow up tag? Might have something to do ith 95 RON........maybe.

The Lancer Turbo Register (LTR) is the "home" club for Evos, and organise a few track days, meets, etc. They do a mag too. See http://www.ltregister.com
