5x100 Front Wheel bearings and Heavy Track use

Probably a question for track whores or lads competing all the time . How often do you go through them?

Has anyone done a 5x114.3/5x100 conversion to allow you to use a larger bearing but retain your 5x100 wheels ,struts, brakes etc? There is a few companys in the USA offered kits which includes Machined 5x114 Axle housings to suit the 5x100 struts /brakes,redriiled hubs from 5x114 to 5x100 .

    Any opinions ?

I just converted the Legacy to 114.3 Newage hubs, the fronts were machined by Alyn at ASP to allow for classic Impreza/Legacy struts to be used and the rears were a direct fit. Alyn also drilled my PF rear discs to 114.3 PCD.

The offside front wheel bearing/hub has lasted all of this season but an off at Knockhill killed the nearside front (the drive back to the pit with a bent wheel killed the bearing not the actual off)

The Hub/bearing assembly is a decent aftermarket version and was new at the beginning of the year.

    My XXRs are 100/114 multistud.

I think I have only ever changed one front and one rear wheel bearing on my STi5 RA's, and that's with stupid amounts of track miles on those cars, plus daily driving them 12K+/year.

I have had to change one rear wheel bearing on my current car, that was after castle combe this year. Car had done 88K miles at that point and been used for years on the sprints, I've done not far off 70K miles in it now, currently at 95K miles.

Thats great to know someone has got it done this side of the water.

I'm considering doing it in the future ,obviously 2nd hand axle housings will make thing alot cheaper, but can I ask how much the cost was?obviously I will have the extra cost of re drilling the 114 hubs to 5x100

John, regarding your Ra ,thats good to know .

You can machine the housing, to fit a double roller bearing.

5x100 Front Wheel bearings and Heavy Track use

Anyone heard about 2010 legacy conversion ?
I've seen that 2010 legacy have same bearings than 114,3 STI but can keep 5x100 and no fully PnP on shocks for GC8 and foz.
Just need to make a ring between bearing and CV join.
    Some pictures :

Yes, I've done it on my GC8 race car, using slicks and ET11 offset wheels. The bearings have stood up really well considering the amount of abuse they get, but finding the hub is not an easy task. Don't know what they cost new, but they are very scarce second hand. Mine came from an Impreza WRX hatch.

If you want to check with your Subaru dealer :

    Front upright (Right) : 28313AG020
    Front upright (Left) : 28313AG030
For bearings and hubs : VKBA 6885
    Wheel bolts : 901000238
I should have a sketch of the ring somewhere if interested.

FYI I but the parts numbers in the US Ebay and got a dozen or more hits and to note the knuckles also fit USDM all 2008-2014 Forester XT's and LL Beans editions and Impreza's that have the either the WRX, Limited, Outback/Sports, packages.

How did you get on with this solution?

Sorry for poor quality, I made a quick sketch with excel for the ring. Hope it will help. I didn't tried it yet on my car, but it's planned

All dimensions in mm, you must convert it if you need it in Inches

    Still functioning.

Double tapered roller bearing - jrm4249 or equivalent - went with a version that was rubber shielded, as opposed to metal, thought that a metal shield might retain more heat?

Did think about using Neo hp 800 synthetic grease, but didn't know if the internal bearing carrier was plastic or metal - synthetic grease has been suggested to degrade plastic carriers?

Also liked the idea of fitting a larger OD bearing, to re-use any knuckles that may be out of round/spun.

Re: Chatreux's option - I believe adge, a member on here, has already, successfully, gone this route.

I have run 08 hatchback wrx hubs with bolt in bearings on my rally car for several years with no issues. Now running the larger 114.5 hubs as changed suspension, but modified the hubs to still fit my 5 x 100 wheels

5x100 Front Wheel bearings and Heavy Track use

I'm waiting my parts from Japan. Mean WRX 08+ knuckles with bearings for my classic. I don't care about ABS as I never had it.
I'll post some pictures and my feedback when I will get it.
