View Full Version : 30 - 130mph day.....

We are planning to run this day in October 2008 at an RAF base in Lincs (I think) but it won't be until probably the 1st weekend in October.

This will be run for Scoobies and will be the same format as the MLR 30-130 days have been - you know the ones where Norris has cracked the run in under 5s.

I just wanted to gauge the interest level from those with serious machines - ie Time Attack competitors, hillcimbers, sprinters, drag cars, etc.

Please post your interest on this thread. The day will be limited to 50 cars and the cost will be circa 90 each. You will get a nmber of runs and professional datalogging/ timing equipment will be used.

This will possibly be the weekend before the TA final at Snetteron, but unfortunately there are no other dates available other than March this year - which I think is too soon.

Can Andy F beat Simon Norris??? :D

Cheers

Terry

I can get from 0-130 faster than simon does 30-130 so its really about how much of a head start to give him ;)

Ren - Thats not actually correct, although you're right I haven't kept it quiet as I have nothing to gain from doing so with a simple spec change.

New spec is as below;

Long rod ND 94mm stroker engine (950Hp)
HKS Le Mans inlet manifold
Longitudinal Engine Position
Top mount GT42R
Skyline Front Diff
Skyline Rear Diff
Skyline Transfer Box (Uprated By Sumo Poweer)
Holinger Double Overdrive RD6 Sequential Gearbox
New aero package to assist with Time attack

All major shell fab being done by Hauser as we speak.

Cheers

Gearbox/sump was assumed due to the front diff layout on the GTR.

Si Should be quite nippy ;) and tough ! I'm not sure that trans swap is an option for us scooby guys though :(

Is there anything at all left from an Evo IX on your car now Simon ;)

stevieturbo
12th January 2008, 23:33
Cant really hold the fastest Evo title or records if/when you achieve them anymore with the new setup though ? as it isnt really an Evo anymore ?

It is now a totally custom built car with little, if any of the original left.

David_Wallis
13th January 2008, 01:05
The engine will be an evo, the shell will be an evo..

Could argue the same about a ford with an LS1, 4 link rear and a different rear diff, My head says supra but brain says it isnt!!! LOL.

Andy.F
13th January 2008, 11:17
How much of the shell and how much of the std engine ;)

Santa Pod regs are the most sorted regards controlling street car class eligibility so far. T/A, Shakespeare Jap series and to a lesser extent TOTB are still too relaxed and open to abuse, or should I say 'buying' your way to the front.
In the short term its great for entries but once a few 'rocket ships' run away from the rest of the field they will find a lot of 'also rans' may back out the following season.

Pod Jap street car regs in brief summary.....

All steel shell (only l/w boot and bonnet allowed)
OEM engine block and heads in original location.
Minimum weight limit per class with penalty for non oem transmission.
OE fuel tank
OE windows
OE Dash/door trims
OE chassis with complete OE floorpan and bulkheads.
Original wheelbase.

If all the series above at least adopted these fairly basic and easy to police regs, then many more could build competitive cars that can have a choice of events to run in. At the moment if you build a serious contender for one series, its not ideal/legal for the other.

Im not trying to break any "Granada" records though. If I was, I think there would only be about 3 contendors there that I am aware of....and all of those use vastly different running gear to me, and even less of the original Granada remains !!!

Im not saying it isnt a stunning project, of course it is. But it cant really hold a title or records as an Evo anymore.
And given none of the original Chassis is intact, all original drivetrain is gone ( bar the block/heads ), all factory bulkheads no longer exist, and a cage holds it together.

What is a tube chassis car ? I think it fits the criteria perfectly.

Is none of the original chassis left? Last time I saw Simon's green car it was still using the stock suspension turrets, essentially it had had a chunk taken out the middle and a roof chop ;) Granted now it could be wildly different.

To my mind a Tube chassis car is a spaceframe with a silhouette body stretched over the top of it that looks like a factory model in passing.

I think it's more of a tubbed shell with a cage myself ;)

stevieturbo
13th January 2008, 14:09
A tubbed shell would have large rear tubs for huge tyres....

Dont think he has done that though ? With 4wd, there would hardly be much point ?

David_Wallis
14th January 2008, 10:07
I think simons car is still an Evo myself,

Time attack rules states that you can only move the suspension pickups within around 2" iirc.

The floor has been altered to flatten it, RC have altered there's, I've chopped mine..

As of last year I would have happily said it was still an evo. Ill wait until I see the new version, however I suspect it will still be passible as an Evo.

Could you not on the other hand argue that the RCMS car has tubbed front arches?

It all depends on how big they need to be before its classed as tubbed IMHO smile.gif

David

stevieturbo
14th January 2008, 18:15
tubbed means altering the factory inner gaurds/arches.

Other arches are typical add on bits...not really structural IMO.
I dont think RCMS has touched their inner gaurds ? ( aside from a slight cut to make room for a boost pipe )

David_Wallis
14th January 2008, 20:15
Take another look smile.gif

They have 'mini' tubs to allow them to run the car low on 18's

Look very nice too, However I wouldnt call the car tubbed.

Aye it would be great to compare it with the EVO 30 - 130mph event.....

And i'm sure Andy has a trick or 2!

David_Wallis
14th January 2008, 23:12
LOL..

What is this, if you cant beat it, ban it!

I think people are scared of progress and results!

I like fast cars, if it takes altering the rear wheel arches then so be it, however tubbed cars with Keith Black Engines and Lenco Transmissions, with tubbed arches are a different story!

terryb

I've been giving this event more thought and I think we should make this a Scooby only day for this year - times can be compared against the EVOs from their days and then maybe we could do a head to head scooby vs EVO day in the future

If tubs, Lenco, custom chassis etc make them go faster. Isnt that progress ?

It'll end up like a funny car soon ;)
