View Full Version : Elvington 1/4m rwyb 11th March

CM-TOTB
27th January 2007, 12:18
this will be the only car rwyb date at elvington this year as far as i'm aware, due to a hike in airfield hire rates and previous low turnout at car rwybs there, which is a shame.
cost will be 40-45 apparently as its a shared cars n bikes day, unlimited runs.

TOTB is of course on 29th July @ Elvington and SSO date/launch will be released this weekend i believe.

hope to see some of you on the 11th march for the rwyb. 1/4m only should be pointed out, no top speed runs.

Fanstastic! If I don't kill my car at Donno on the 5th, I get a second chance the following weekend - how brilliant is that!

I've got to build mine.. by march.. erm no.

CM-TOTB
1st February 2007, 21:05
yeah its a shame david about the dates, but there is a general reduction in the number of days used for motorsport on the venue so costs have gone up allround for other events, and rwyb car days were not breaking even for them.
bike days get 100-150+ bikes regular for rwyb :-(

Cant they do combined days?

Just to clear this up 11th March, Is it cars and bikes? if so will the bikers have to wait in line or do they just gt to push in as usual?

Cheers Andy

2nd February 2007, 20:22
Cars and bikes, and no doubt, no matter what is said, the bikes will push in as ever. Overheating car engines it is then!

2nd February 2007, 20:41
I'll give it a miss then. Shame as Elvington is a nice strip, but no doubt its that sort of sh1te that puts people off.
Anyone know what rwyb days Melborne are doing this year? They seem to be more organized in this department.

Fooking biker arse bandits

Once before they done bikes/cars/bikes/cars in approx 15 minute sessions. Seemed to work ok smile.gif

Bikes get to push in at the Pod as well, seems to be a drag racing unwritten rule

Andy, that seemed to work well in September.

Dan, nah, thats the rule of the road!

alan, it was mean that pointed out your gear changes seem very slow mate, big pause in between, you got the exact same time as me mate, 12..33, it gave my speed as 122mph, no chance of that mate, did you do that time in the right hand lane looking down the track, it was said to be around 7mph to high, good day apart from the dodgy times

11th March 2007, 21:26
Don't worry I will be...... even if the car you are talking about is using a drag friendly 5sp box! ;)

It would of been a better comparison had it been warmer when I ran at Avon park at the end of last year. Still, cold track using cold R888's and lack of traction in 1st and 2nd still saw a 12.5, so who am I to complain.

This year though will be quite a bit different though once the engine is run in! :D

Lots of people struggling for traction today, it looks pants grip wise with the UK cars spinning the front wheels a lot.

like you say the timing is no where near right, you may as well just go to a proper strip, i wouldn't take all time and speeds as accurate, maybe the times where near but not all speeds

I've found the times to be consistant with Santa Pod but the MPH can read from 5% high to 5% low in my experience.

What a hectic day! Not see a RWYB at Elvington THAT busy for years!

Seems i was suffering from Troutism yesterday, and completely unable to get 3rd gear at the first time of asking :(

Traction was a complete mare, quickest 60ft being 1.910. First run of the day i did a 4.3second 60ft, wheelspin city anyone :D

Had a major scare when going for 3rd and selecting 1st  , rev counter off the clock, clunks bangs backfires etc. Gulp, not another box! Fortunately i appear to have got away with it touch wood.

Box has to come out though, as i hate driving it now i cant get 3rd.

Was good to see Alan set a new PB though.

I for one was v.happy with the performance of my new engine, passed the 1000mile mark yesterday with a trackday and a good few 1/4miles as running in, ready for a bigger turbo now.

I was consistently running 12.5x @ 115/116 all morning in the RH lane, then after lunch it was all 110-112?.

Surprised to see Alan quicker than Ian Thomason, never saw any of Ian's runs, but i thought he might have been quicker.
Given the fact I was a "drag virgin" I decided from the off to take it easy on the clutch and the gear changes.

Given my times I figure if you were to drive it Steve with no respect for clutch or gearbox (as well as your seasoned reactions) it would go quicker - but then again it's my daily driver and I don't want to have to replace the clutch/gearbox ;)

I told Mike Tuckwood my times and got the reply "Yeah, I just watched the video. You need to be a bit (where a bit means a lot) more aggressive. You need a shift light and get up to it as fast as possible, then get yanking that stick harder and faster. That'll markedly reduce your times and shouldn't take too heavy a toll either. :)"

So next time I think I'll give it more welly :D

Put some videos up on Youtube instead of photobox (kept corrupting the video and much too slow)

This was the Zen run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSJee85l3EE

Not sure what happened...

Given the fact I was a "drag virgin" I decided from the off to take it easy on the clutch and the gear changes.

Not a bad first attempt though.

Paul selected the wrong gear hence the "Stop".

I selected the right gear, but something got lost in the translation. ;)

I have never slowed down so quickly!

Well that's why you went to a "Test and Tune" day rather than leaving it until a competitive event to try it in anger...

pretty much, it helps to have a date to work to though, else it would never get done.
