Going to organise some more T Shirts this year, but anyone who wants them will have to pay for them.

The quality will be very good, will have the Team Logo from last year, and will have individual names in a different colour under the logo.

I will confirm prices of the shirts by the end of June, but expect between 10 and 20 per shirt (dependant on style). I will need payment for the shirts before i order, and will advise of the precise cut off date nearer the time.

If you are interested, please add your name to the list in the same format as me.

Note How you put your name below, is how it will appear on the shirt.

Team Shirts
Steven Darley, Medium, Long sleeved
Emma Darley, Small, Short sleeved

Put your name downThought I just did ?

Guess I must just be old school; there was a time when bandwidth wasn't as plentiful as it is nowadays and unnecessary quoting was forwned upon as a waste of bandwidth (a bit like "Me too" posts). But that was a long time ago, guess old habits die hard, so just to keep you happy, yet another unnecessary quote :

So is it people that you consider part of the team or not???

Surely any advertising for http://22b.com and Team Subaru is a plus??

So long as they arent subsidised and everyone pays 'CASH' prior to the manufacture / order to make things easy for you / emma??

LOL @ Cord.

I only specced long sleeved as I was going to be competing. Now I have stepped down I now longer require the sleeves :D

Simon_
19th June 2006, 14:36
why you not competing

David_Wallis
19th June 2006, 15:22
hang on and Ill copy my reasoning..

David_Wallis
19th June 2006, 15:23
I have been giving this serious consideration over the past week or so, and I have come to the decision to pull out of the totb team, I will however still be prepared to be at the bottom of the reserve list.

The car needs more work and enthusiasm than I have time for, and I feel it is no longer a hobby, as to compete you need to be competitive, and those that I want to compete with are now 'tuners' and have more money / budget to throw at their cars than I do.

I think the silver car will be getting stripped and placed up for sale, I will then strip the engine and probably concentrate on building myself a track car.

Sorry to let the team down, but I feel the car will be more of a hinderance than an a asset.

Fair enough David.

It is a shame but understand your reasoning..

Simon

19th June 2006, 19:56
I know how you feel David, I don't like tieing so much money up in my car either, and there's no point in trying to compete in TOTB anymore with the money required to build a competative car...

Not even sure I'll come along this year :(

Simon_
19th June 2006, 20:05
Don't say that it is something I would love to do in the future.. doubt I ever will but I like the idea smile.gif

19th June 2006, 20:16
Simon, best advice i can give....

DONT!

Steven
19th June 2006, 20:18
This will be the last TOTB that my car will have been aiming for, it probably wont attend again, the event has moved on so much now.

Steven

Simon_
19th June 2006, 20:26
hmmmmm.. I'll have to try and get a drive in the volvo then.. lol which is running at TOTB.

Simon

jim.....
19th June 2006, 21:14
That's the whole problem with events like TOTB/SSO they become big advertising for the various breeds of car, and you can't blame the likes of Andy,Paul, etc., for using it, perhaps it's time for a change of the running Pro Am classes.

Slooby
19th June 2006, 21:34
But where do you draw the line Jim?

Ronnie for example is an amateur, so's Keith...but look at their results!

Granted their probably getting preferential rates, but they are still paying for it out of their own hard earned

Andy

ps, agree that something needs to be done to cap the spec/spend otherwise it is going to lose its appeal to the majority.

Slooby
19th June 2006, 22:34
No company tax write offs then for promotional expenses?

Plus your preferential rates include 'free' labour ;)

Andy.F
19th June 2006, 22:45
Ronnie may be an amature but he has a pro building his car.
I'm sure Cord isn't charging Keith 50 an hour either ;)

By your logic, If I gave my car to someone then it would just become accepted as a private entry ?

It needs to be controlled on spec, regardless of whether it is a tuner entry or private.

Slooby
20th June 2006, 05:58
That is a scarey thought Andy...you giving your car to someone...are you absolutely sure you're a real Scot? tongue.gif

I get what you mean though, there's nothing to stop you or RCMS 'giving' me a car to run as a private entry...bypassing the possible 'non-tuner' class

Where do you draw the line?

Classes for cars with stock internals say?

You certainly couldn't do it on a budget speant on the vehicle, yours car being a case in point; built on a tight budget by someone with considerably more technical prowess than the average punter who would normally be paying you to do the work!

Cord
20th June 2006, 06:59
Actually its 45 ;)

And i think drawing a line on what cars enter is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much easier said than done.

Andy's car is definately a tuners car. It's owned by a tuner, built by the tuner and run by the tuner. Keith's car isn't owned by a tuner, but I can't see anybody round here thinking it's any less of a tuners entry than Andy's.

Hasn't just about every car there had a proffesional work on it at some point?

TOTB has moved on from it's original format and i can never see any kind of rules bringing it back to waht people consider "the good old days"

"Victim" (in some peoples eyes) of it's own success?

p.s. i think TOTB is a bit crap anyway but it does bring us (RB Motorsport) a lot of trade.

The time attack stuff seems the way forward, but we don't have any customers who are hell bent on winning that, so it looks like I'll stick to drag strips for now  (and some low 8's :D :D )

Andy.F
20th June 2006, 07:28
Yes, I agree that the event is becoming a business tool :(
Thats also not good for the punters who like to see the cars run as some tuners are now building cars with just that event in mind  How many times did the team ice car run last year for example ?
I'd guess it run for less than a total of 5 mins in public.

Care to hazard a /hr run time estimate

There has been no professional work on my car whatsoever....
Its all totally amateur :D

How are the entry lists coming together for other marques ?

How many genuine privately entered road cars are there so far ?

My car is 99% all my own work, the other 1% ie alloy welding etc is done by amatures at 'mates rates' I'm a one man operation here.
Just because my day job is mapping subarus, that makes me a pro tuner

Paul@Zen
20th June 2006, 22:05
I tend to agree with Andy. The biggest difference is that I we can offset some of the cost by paying trade prices and writing off much of the expense against tax, no VAT etc. You can argue that this means we can get more for our money, but I would still guess that some "private" entries get more compensation in the form of cost price parts, free labour, free parts (sponsorship).

I am only a professional because I make it my profession, others do the same with varying levels of success.

garry@gr
20th June 2006, 22:18
i could do wi one of them sponsorship thingys ,,, all my work is done at my home location but i ant after a drag car more a every day driven fast car ,,,, if everyone stood back and looked at others , you can see the difference but to put catagories on these is a different thing . . but gotta admit i an not ever going to get anywhere near top as it gone too far ,,,,, maybe gotta be in car trim??? or maybe turbo limitations ???? i dont think any fuel additives should be allowed that would limit alot , or other fuels ,,, maybe class it by that ,,,,???
gazza (only ideas)

maybe more ,,,, and less ??? or some combination of ,,??,, ?

the other 1% ie alloy welding etc is done by amatures at 'mates rates' I'm a one man operation here.
Just because my day job is mapping subarus, that makes me a pro tuner 1.5% now!!

Where do you draw the line with this..

Did you put the tyres on the rims with tyre levers and your own bare hands?
no I used gloves.. sorry you are cheaten!

lol

Perhaps the people with problems with the current set up should organise new events?

Andy.F
21st June 2006, 08:49
Ah, Simon.... a good example

Part time mapper with a day job so a private entry.....but if you gave up your day job (or even took a long holiday ;) ) You would be a pro tuner !

Simon_
21st June 2006, 10:28
Yep.. not that I compete but yes..

I assume all of a sudden all the grand ideas and knowledge and advantages, contacts of being a pro tuner would become clear..lol

My concern would be that this inheriented stuff from becoming a Pro Tuner would be like other so called Pro Tuning companies (none that post on here) ie. you switch knock control off and just add bleed valves and map Subaru's lean?

Simon :D

Slooby
21st June 2006, 20:36
Having (briefly) worked in the Subaru tuning community, do I now count as a pro-tuner?

Andy.F

Well Thomas that depends who you worked for ?
Railway engineering doesn't really qualify ;)

RB5_245
22nd June 2006, 06:25
Maybe they should add a 2 hour commute and picking up some shopping at tesco smile.gif

I think a 2mile run across some closed back road would really add an edge to things. Unfortunately not in the slightest bit feasable.

David_Wallis
22nd June 2006, 07:42
It is, but not for this or possibly next years competition.

What we need is an open discussion on a totb forum about what rules the current competitors would like to see.

David

ok I have a great plan that solves all the above problems.

I am declaring myself the owner of the rights and you are all welcome to come to my event instead of TOTB.

It will be called Ten of the Worst.

similar racing type events, but that cars have to be bodged together pieces of cr4p that no tuner in their right mind would want to put their name to!

what do you think?

David_Wallis

Slooby
22nd June 2006, 19:29
Needs a maximum budget limit of say 250 quid for purchase of a car and all mods.

The car has to be MOT'd (tax and insurance not required unless driven to the event)

It also cannot be newer than 15 years old.

Cheaper than a weekend at Elvington for most of us ;)

I like :D

Andy.F
22nd June 2006, 19:50
There used to be a system in stock cars where there was a maximum recommended value.
The cost was set at say 5000 You can spend as much as you want in reality, however any competitor was entitled to buy your car from you at this set price

Wouldn't that be fun here :D What would we set the value at though ;)

John Stevenson
22nd June 2006, 20:00
Mines worth about 4.65 at the moment ;)
