View Full Version : TOTB Team Facilities Suggetions

Steven
20th June 2005, 08:23
This thread is to be used solely for suggestions of facilities needed by our team at TOTB, from the obvious to not so obvious, please suggest away.

These suggestions are for facilities available to the WHOLE team.

Note: Do not assume suggesting something, and proposing to help/supply will get you a pit lane pass for your car, it wont :D

If you feel you can help/provide, then please add your name to a suggestion.

Suggestions:

Quite a few Gazebos
Water spray(er)
CO2 sprayer
Food
Drinks

Steven

please add to the list as you see fit.

i would also say that something like water sprayer will need to be split duty wise.

I think I will be bringing a fridge and generator to provide the team with cool drinks throughout the day. After the experience of Japshow at the weekend, dealing with the heat on a big slab of concrete in the blazing sun (which it usually is) is going to be half the battle.

Everyone could do with bringing at least 10litres of water each, and a cheap 3.99 water sprayer from a supermarket.

Welder - David Wallis

I would suggest we go easy on things like welders and stuff, if we need to be welding cars then something is wrong. Power for these beasts needs to be considered, we can have all the electrical toys in the world but they mean nothing if we only have a little 750w generator.

Warm where you are Paul ;)

WRT a BBQ, i personally would be against this now (based on advise from Emma). The last couple of years, Emma, Truda and Nick have cooked food, to have hardly anyone eating them.

The better suggestion IMO would be Sandwiches, which i would guess would be better for us to sort out locally.

I would reiterate what Paul suggests, we go easy on the large stuff. If we need to do stuff like that, then we really will be having problems.

I didnt mention that Matt @ RCMS has agreed to let us all share the main facilities on the service van they will be bring with Halldors car. This has a generator and compressor onboard, so that takes care of the tyre situation.

Steven

20th June 2005, 12:15
Ah...so no need for me to bring the compressor then? Or would having an extra one help? 2HP, 50 litre, single phase btw

Steven
20th June 2005, 12:40
On reflection Tim, i dont think it would be necessary TBH. I certainly wont be taking mine.

To All

Right, i have said this off the board via email and also face to face with several people.

The hardest thing i have encountered about organising the Team has not been the cars and drivers, it has been the sorting out of pit facilities.

We NEED to keep things simple. There are going to be over 120 competing cars there, so space will be at a premium around pit lane.

Having Matt agree to us sharing some of their facilities was a god send, its simple and contained in one location.

Most of you bring your own little tool boxes anyway, for just in case scenarios, and usually take what i can get in the 4x4.

Try and think about what we have needed in the past.

Whilst i dont wish to upset anyone, most of you who know me well enough to know i wont do it intentionally, i have a habit of saying what i think.

I agree about the welders, however if someone cracks an exhaust flange or collector, it would be a shame to miss out IYSWIM.. yes my welders are large, but dont take much current on low settings. IE we arent going to need to use them at a full 200A, and even if we dont get them out of the car / van.. they are still there if needed smile.gif

is it stupid to suggest someone bring some oil?

Steven
20th June 2005, 14:34
Not stupid at all adam, simple things are often over looked.

Most of the team are seasoned enough to think about oil, although a fail safe would be nice.

There was talk of a sponsored oil change the day before.

Methanol?

I'll throw my jacks, tools and axle stands into the car when I come up, we can then take along what we think is needed on the day...oh an my disposible nitrile gloves and the higher temp pair of gloves that I've got

David_Wallis
20th June 2005, 19:08
I 'think' we should maybe speak to someone about a marquee for the full 10 (ok 11 if we include the irish man :D ) cars.. IE to cover them from the rain or the sun.. IE In the pit lane / half on the grass rather than getting a marquee for people that cant be arsed spectating to sit under :D

IE have the usual ones, but get a proper one.. could be a nice advertising opportunity for a company ??

Its only a suggestion.. not suggesting we fence off our cars like some though. smile.gif

I think trying to cover 10 cars ( oops 11 ) is a bit much, as Im sure quite a few will be on the move throughout the day.

Hopefully based on previous years, weather shall be good again. ( must rub sun cream on head.... )

Sounds like there is going to be quite a lot of backup gear on hand...

re water sprayers, have you thought about one of the larger 5L pressure sprayers?

might be a bit more practical than the hand held ones, on ebay for around 15 quid
