Jesus this is gonna be an expensive RWYB!

Mind you, if your posts are anything to go by 15+ runs is worth travelling for, the Pod is a joke on RWYB days now...

Ok ta Alan, that explains why things have been a bit quiet ;)
I believe you won the 2.0 class....well done smile.gif All you need is a decent 5 speed box now !!

Andy

10th April 2005, 20:04
Fastest terminal I saw from a Scoob was 140mph

I had to abort after my first run 12.81s @ 84mph!!

Good day, but quite quiet!

Have you had enough of scoobs now David or just testing the water ?

Andy

johnfelstead
10th April 2005, 20:17
Paul has NOS? he didnt when i was in the car 2 weeks ago.

Steven
10th April 2005, 21:05
Paul had no NOS.

He had major problems though, which will doubt have done the grape vine by now.

The most amazing was, when he changed to my D01J's, and sheared the front OS drive shaft

A quick trip to trouts, and rob his drive shaft, to put on pauls, then another problem.

Tim websters top secret gearbox broke i believe.

Wallis got down to 11.36 with 133 terminals i believe, but the car wasnt fully behaving, running on 3 on the odd ocassion.

Paul was top car of the day, 11.01 (on the RE040's), Wallis 2nd with 11.36.

Long, knackering day!!!

CM-TOTB
10th April 2005, 21:15
jese. great times and speeds! please post up the all the best scoobs if poss?

Paul@Zen
10th April 2005, 21:36
Sorry Andy, the NOS has yet to be fitted.

Some as yet unidentified problem with a "thing" floating around in cylinder 2 stopped play. I am thinking that I have either dropped a valve, or perhaps the valve seat has finally come away from the cracked head.

A few problems getting used the DCCD made life more difficult than it should have been. I was launching off the hand brake, which of course opens the centre diff, so I got lots of rear wheel spin off the line, and past the lights, and past the 60ft marker, and into 2nd!

Sheared driveshaft was bizarre, absolutely clean square break on the outer end of the shaft.

Paul

johnfelstead
10th April 2005, 21:41
sorry to hear that Paul, hopefully the noise isnt something too serious.

Wheelspin city with that rear diff in there and DCCD set open. :D

Was the driveshaft break at the point where the CV joint splines taper out to a plain shaft?

Paul@Zen
10th April 2005, 21:46
the break was about 2 inches from the spine, just inside he CV boot.

The noise is something very serious I think, judging by the pasting the plug got! But nothing that can't bee fixed, as if I need more time fixing the stinking car!

Paul

johnfelstead
10th April 2005, 21:53
bugger. Once you go to sticky tyres driveshafts can suffer badly, if you want to guarantee good shafts for your torque levels you need to speak to the likes of GKN motorsport.

ScoobyDuck
10th April 2005, 21:56
Great times guys smile.gif

oh, bad luck Paul. sounds exactly like what happened to MAFFA last year @ SSO, dropped something (valve / spark plug) and nakard a very nice & shiney autosportif 2.2ltr.

hope its not too bad

Steve

Andy.F
10th April 2005, 22:00
Ouch :(

Did the shaft break during a shift or off the line ?
RCMS do HD shafts I believe but no idea on costs ?

****in mental car!!!!!!!

Also finally got into the 11's!! 1bar held... just needed some training from steven :D

Rob

Paul@Zen
10th April 2005, 22:40
I think the shaft broke during launch. Possibly it was as the centre diff locked up after the initial slipping (due to handbrake).

Rob G
10th April 2005, 22:46
it looked like it broke on the change to 2nd from where i was.. not 100% on that though.

Rob

Paul@Zen
10th April 2005, 22:49
It didn't break as I launched, but either momentarily after, or as Rob says the change into 2nd gear.

Slooby
10th April 2005, 23:08
Not going to mention the terminals then? ;)

Can I just add a big thank you to Steven and Emma for their hospitality this evening :D

Rob, for providing us hours of fun with his torque converter tongue.gif

Paul, for taking it all in his stride :(

Wallis for just being as mad as ever ;) and for letting Rob blitz the convoy

Steven, for showing Rob how it should be done, on his first ever run in Rob's car :D

New model STI shafts should fit ?? Im pretty sure 5sp and 6sp shafts are the same length.

Andy, i think Paul did 177 on his 1st top speed run, and 175 when the engine died.

Forgot to say thanks to Rob for letting me have a go in the skybus, cheers for that :D

Good to see you all got home ok.

Steven

:D

I could have possibly won the top class too.. there was me and paul in it, and then a westfield hyabusa (sp) 1300 iirc thingy got in.. I was supposed to run against that and as Im not happy with the car decided not to push my luck smile.gif

One run could have been an expensive mistake..

Seems to miss a bit on idle.. fine on boost.. need to do a compression test and check for air leaks.

what fuels were people suing for all this?

sorry to hear fo the problems.

Paul,

nice results, keep it up.

I would be going with john on the driveshaft suggestion, can't imagine standards sti would be up to the task.

I was using Scottimax, as was David, but david didn't alter his map on the day at all, I added some timing.

Paul

David used 25 litres of BP Ultimate, plus 3 litres of Methanol.

no wonder it was running on 3... ;)

David_Wallis

not that many tongue.gif you allways miss my fast runs.. must nick that damn camera mount. :D

Steven
11th April 2005, 20:24
When everyone left last night and i was putting everything back in the garage, i saw the camera mount in the bag and that "damn". You should have asked.

This pit crew malarchy is more tiring than actually competing myself. I was knackered.

Still cursing Rob though, for letting me drive the skybus.

I had the camera in my hands.. should have used it..

Need to come over with a trailer and andys car, and pick my car up and check it over.

I am fooking knackered too.. you know me, I dont do getting up at 6.30 and then getting to bed last night from work at 2am.. and then not sleeping well 2 nights in a row due to lack of beer :D

Cheers for your help again, and pass on my thanks to emma.

David

Steven
11th April 2005, 21:13
No problems. Soz i wasnt much help to you yesterday. Never really asked you what the problems were. No doubt we will speak during the week.

Remember, we need to sort the ramp out.

Steven

David_Wallis
11th April 2005, 22:06
you had enough probs of your own, I now know how you feel when I turn up / get picked up with a hangover..

I should have driven the scoob, that would have shifted your thoughts from the hangover.

Will discuss the ramps during the week, pub is probably going to be pretty much a no go this week due to work load. (Yeah right!) but we could do with measuring cable runs, getting a pic of fuse box, (to save me a drive) and then a motor :D

David

Paul@Zen

Hmm, some interesting noises from the white car!

Depending what type of motor you're after may have a source, if you can let me know I can get you a price. Possibly cable too.

shit..

We are on the hunt for Sti valves for this current stalled project of Snowcrashes.
I knew the Sti valves were hollow and the exhaust one was sodium filled as well.
So perhaps it would be wise to steer away from them. bugger. :(
Afterall Snowys mission statement was "reliabilty" over anything else.
What valves are you going for next?
Might be interested in getting a second full set with your order if the price is favourable?

bendy ones that stay intact would be a good start I expect.
Damage limitation....
