View Full Version : Noise Test

Hi, can someone please tell me how noise regulation tests are performed at a track day. I'm going to a track evening at Donington Park on the 30/08 and I'm curious as to how they do it.

Is it performed while the car is stationary, if you have to rev the car, who does the revving (yourself or a marshal etc), or is it measured whilst you are on track?

The noise output is monitored whilst the cars are on the track at donington.

They have a great big microphone on the pit wall near the start of the pit straight.

If your car is running a road legal exhaust (even without cats) you shouldn't have any problems. if you are concerned don't drive near the pit wall http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

The only car I have ever seen 'blip' the noise meter on a normal public trackday was a massively modified R33 Skyline. This thing was white...but most of the back of the car was a nice shitty brown colour from all the fuel.

I followed this car down the back straight and it was splitting 6 foot flames on overrun...yikes http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.... he was pulled into the pits. They screwed a mute into the tail pipe...and it still failed the noise tests....ace car mind http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.
