I wanted to find out if insurance was compulsory, or not, for the day?

Also, what time are drivers expected to arrive?

Cheers http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/wink.gif

Just been reading the blurb on the brands day looks like 7.30 is when registration will begin and the groups set up and briefing , track time starts at 9.00.

I have done a few days at Brands and always been asked for my driving license but never proof of track insurance for the event.Although obviously everyone should have cover for the event.

68.00 for 7,500 worth of cover seems such good value and a massive peace of mind.

Not Anders but I hope I helped.

Track insurance is a recomendation only, obviously if you prang it, and you havent got insurance you will feel a bit of a lemon http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/wink.gif

This old chestnut! Most policies do not exclude "track days", they do exclude any motor activity that has a timing element!

Ian Cook wrote off his car under normal insurance and walked away with a nice new one thank you very much! LOL http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/eek.gif

Others get specific cover, it depends on your ploicy and whether you expect the company to play up! http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Thanks guys.

Just making sure it wasn't compulsory as the SIDC mailing doesn't state it.

OK,

here is the deal with Egger Lawson regarding insurance for the Brands Hatch event.

Cover: 12,000
Excess: 750
Cost: 75

This is for group cover, with a maximum total claim on the day of 80,000. This means that up to 7 people can claim the full amount, or 20 people can damage their cars to the extent of 4k (a typical bill for an Impreza off at a track day).

Additional drivers for your car can be fully insured for only 12 each.

This is more expensive than our usual cover at Knockhill for several reasons:

a) Twice as many people taking part and allowed on the track at any time
b) The event is running for twice as long
c) Any claims at BH tend to be higher than at lower speed circuits, though the sand traps do tend to prevent most big accidents these days.
d) The group cover is for twice as much (ie 80k instead of 40k)

Compared to their usual individual rates, this is an excellent deal http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/smile.gif

For those who don't want the risk of 20 people crashing before them and not having any group cover left (extremely unlikely), then a discounted rate is available as follows:

50 for 6k cover, with a 750 excess, and 9 for every extra 1k cover required above this.

There is also optional personal cover (for death, dismemberment, permanent disablement etc), and 10 buys you 250,000 worth of cover.

I'll put together a proposal form with the bove info, get it approved by Nik@Egger Lawson, and then make it available for anyone who contacts me by e-mail.

Hang on a sec L33, the SIDC mailer says:

"all drivers must ensure that they are insured for track use"

Sounds pretty compulsary to me!

Greg,

I know it says that, that's why I wanted to know if Anders could clarify, or not, as the case may be. Might need to go to Pete on this one http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/wink.gif

Donno if you guys are getting this, but these replies seem to take a while to appear on the thread (note the double reply above) http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/frown.gif

If your insurer prohibits "track day" you are not covered! http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

However the vast majority of insurance policies do not prohibit track days, they will however prohibit any motor activity with an element of timing.

No timing on track days QED.

However as is often mentioned there is cheap additional track cover for those who do not expect their insurance companies to play fair.

I suspect they are so cheap as they cover uninsured losses and vast majority of policies are still viable in the first place.

If in doubt consult your policy/broker!

Anders.

I think L33 is trying to find out wether you MUST have insurance in order to drive at Brands, wether it is your standard company or a 3rd party one.

So what's the answer, is some form of insurance complusary to be allowed on the track?

I also had the WRX plate.(and was last in the 3 car race).

I work in Gravesend, funny I've never bumped into you on the A2.

I was thinking of doing Abingdon again, I think I'll start a new thread to see if anyone else is interested http://bbs.22b.com/ubb/smile.gif
